Why do you think water is scarce in the desert?
Answer:
Water is scarce in the desert because it receives very little rainfall. The weather is very hot and dry, so any water that falls evaporates quickly. There are no big rivers or lakes in the desert. The soil in deserts is mostly sandy that does not retain moisture well, so water drains away or evaporates before plants, animals or humans can use much of it.

Coasts provide fish and seafood, and people can travel by boats.
